The trail begins at Lake Louise, following the shoreline before gradually climbing through forested switchbacks that lift you above the lake. As you ascend, glimpses of turquoise water appear through the trees, building anticipation with every step.
The route is approximately 9.7 kilometres round trip, with a steady elevation gain of just over 600 metres. The incline is consistent rather than aggressive, making it an achievable half-day adventure for hikers who enjoy a slow, rewarding ascent. Most visitors can expect to spend four to four and a half hours on the trail, depending on pace and how often they stop to take in the scenery (which will be often).
As the path continues upward, the landscape unfolds in layers. The vibrant waters of Lake Louise give way to the stillness of Mirror Lake, followed by the charm of Lake Agnes. Here, a historic teahouse sits beside a cascading waterfall, offering a natural pause before the final climb.
Near the summit, the trail opens and the views expand. Reaching Little Beehive just as the sun crests the horizon is a quiet reward, best enjoyed slowly. Take a seat, sip your coffee, and watch the day arrive.
Unlike busier viewpoints, sunrise at Little Beehive often feels intimate. You may share the summit with only a handful of other early risers, or none at all.
