The palazzi of Siena’s aristocratic families have been hubs of political and cultural influence down through the ages. During the Renaissance, they were seats of learning and humanistic vision. Later, their candlelit libraries became spaces of cultivated living, conversation, music and intellectual life.

Such was the case of Palazzo Sozzini Malavolti, named after two of the town’s great lineages. For centuries, their home brought together nobility, scholars and artists in stimulating gatherings which shaped the culture of the commune. The noble palace’s architecture reflects Renaissance ideals of balance and proportion, while its 19th-century frescoes, commissioned by the Sozzini family, elevate the palazzo to a true cultural landmark. The Malavolti had Agostino Fantastici reimagine the grounds and create Romantic gardens with winding paths and sweeping views over the hills and valley.
